Make every detail count.

A good screenshot can show the whole task. A great one shows the reader exactly where to look.

Click markers and numbered actions

Place markers over buttons, controls, and other targets. Multiple ordered actions may be grouped into a step, with numbered markers corresponding to the written directions.

Cropping and highlights

Use cropping to remove irrelevant space, and highlighting to emphasize the relevant part of an image. Prioritize legibility over decoration.

Magnification

Enlarge small interface details when a full-screen screenshot makes controls difficult to read.

Permanent masking

Permanent masking replaces image pixels in the project, rather than simply covering them with an editable overlay. Related project derivatives are intended to inherit the sanitized source to prevent the concealed region reappearing in regenerated exports.

Important: Mask before publishing. Previously exported files and independently saved copies are not retroactively changed. Review each export for private information.
